Age and Weight Limit	Typically suitable for infants up to 4-6 months old or a maximum weight (commonly 15 to 20 pounds, check the manufacturer's specific guidelines). The product must be discontinued as soon as the infant can roll over or push up on their hands and knees, regardless of weight.
Sleep Surface	The sleeping surface must be firm, flat, and horizontal, with an incline of no more than 10 degrees from horizontal in its resting position to reduce SIDS risk.
Mattress Fit	The mattress provided must fit snugly within the bassinet frame. There should be no gap larger than a half-inch (13 mm) at any point between the pad and the perimeter of the unit to prevent entrapment or suffocation hazards. The total thickness of the uncompressed mattress pad shall not exceed 1.5 inches (38 mm).
Side Height	The sides must be at least 7.5 inches (191 mm) higher than the top of the non-compressed mattress to prevent the baby from falling out.
Side Material	Sides made of fabric must be strong and not create a completely bounded opening that could trap a baby's torso. Air-permeable mesh sides are often recommended for better airflow and visibility.
Stability	The base must be wide and sturdy to prevent tipping. Bassinets with wheels must have effective and secure locking mechanisms.
Locking Mechanisms	Any folding bassinet or one with removable components must have a latching or locking mechanism that engages automatically and typically requires two separate, deliberate actions to disengage, preventing accidental collapse.
Design	Smooth surfaces without protruding hardware or sharp edges are mandatory. The design should be free of small parts or excessive soft bedding (like pillows or loose blankets) that could pose a choking or suffocation hazard.
